Tomsk Region is a taiga region located in the southeast of one of the largest lowlands of the planet - the West Siberian Plain. This subject of the Russian Federation was formed in 1944 year (13.08) by the Decree of the Presidium. It is part of the Siberian Federal District. The administrative center is Tomsk.




The region borders on:

·        In the north: with the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug;

·        In the south: with the Novosibirsk and Kemerovo regions;

By and large the region is difficult to access, as 63% of the total area is occupied by taiga, and almost 29% - marshes. By the way, one of the largest marshes in the world - Vasyuganskoe - is located exactly on the territory of this subject.

The highest point - 274,2 m above sea level - is located near the village of Suetilovka, lying at 40 kilometers from the administrative center.

And the lowest is 34 meters above sea level and is somewhere on the bottom of the Ob River.

The climate in the region is continental.

The time zone relative to Moscow has a bias of 4 hours (plus).


Rivers and lakes area


In the region there are more than 18 thousand different watercourses, the total length of which is approximately 95 thousand km. Of these, 1620 rivers are longer than 10 kilometers in length.

The main river here is the Ob. It flows from the southeast of the region to the northwest and divides it into 2 parts almost equivalent to each other. Within the boundaries of the subject, its length is more than 1 thousand kilometers.

Monuments of nature and attractions of the region


This includes:

1.     Anikin is a stone. This is a cliff on Tom, and, more precisely, on its right bank, an area of ​​11 and a half hectares.
