The Republic of Komi is one of the largest subjects of the Russian Federation. It is located in the far north of the federation and is part of the North-West District. The date of the founding of the republic is 1921, when the Komi was proclaimed a separate autonomous region.

Geographical features

An amazing phenomenon here is the forests that cover the Northern Urals. It is here that the famous Pechora-Ilychsky Biosphere Reserve is located. He and several other similar objects, united by the name "Virgin Komi Forests", are included in the UNESCO heritage list.
