A bit of history and geography
Tambov region spread its expanses in the central part of the Oka-Don lowland, which is in the south of the Russian plain. The "expanses" are not very extensive. After the Antonov uprising, the Bolsheviks cut the territory of the Tambov province gently in half. Actually, the Tambov region was formed in 1937 year. Before that Tambov had been a member of the Voronezh Region for several years. True, the population from the administrative reshuffling of the terms did not significantly lose weight.
The largest rivers are the Tsna (the Volga river basin); Crow, Savala, Voronezh and Bityug (the Don River basin). Also there are reservoirs, ponds.
The natural zone is forest-steppe. Moderately continental climate. Soil is still a black earth layer, in some places even a typical powerful one.
Flora, fauna (from those that are not completely extinct), relief, landscapes, the atmosphere - textbook for the Middle Russia. Is that small with a steppe squint.
They inhabited these marvelous places in the ancient Mordvins and Meches. In part they were exterminated by the Tatar-Mongols, partly left for Moksha and Oka or disappeared in the forests. These tribes contributed to the formation of culture and anthropology of the Tambov region.
If you see the term "Wild Field" in the history textbook, then this is just the territory of the present Tambov region and neighboring regions. In the time of the Horde, nomads and wild animals reigned here.
When the Horde yoke fell, the nomadic raids were still dangerous. On the order of Ivan the Terrible, the city of Shatsk was built on the river Tsne. Fugitive peasants created under his cover the settlements first on the forested side of the Tzna, then on the treeless territories. This was in the hands of the Moscow ruler, and they did not catch fugitives.
To stop robbery from the Crimean and Nogai Tatars, Kalmyk hordes in 1635, the city-fortress Kozlov (now Michurinsk) was laid, and in 1636 - Tambov. The approaches to the cities were protected by an earthen rampart. Today the Tatarsky Val exists as a historical landmark. Also there grow some extinct in other places grass.
Tambov defensive fortifications began to be populated by servicemen. This is reminiscent of the names of some localities (Sagittarius, Pushkari near the Tatar rampart). In 1676, the last major march of the Tatars to the local lands ended in failure.
Tambov's peasants actively supported Stepan Razin. To curb free sentiments, the tsar facilitated the early appearance of landlords in the Tambov land. In addition, the problem with the nomads by this time decided.
The development of Tambov region took 225 years.
Here in the field you can find a mound covered with feather grass. They were raised over the steppe at its highest point - on the border of the watershed of the Volga and Don basins. Border Guard of the Wild Field, a watch story.
The regional center
Tambov can be traversed from the edge to the edge in half a day. Very good - like a province, and like the regional center. Institutions, what you need, everything is there. Megapolis does not crush, civilization is available.
True, over the past few years another Tambov from the north side has been attached to the city. Not that the population had money for apartments in new buildings. But erect, something is mastered.
Meanwhile, historical buildings are for the most part in a terrible state.
There are a lot of them, ancient buildings. They are mixed with fashionable glass buildings. Ancient, still strong, they are also beautiful and a little sad.
For the sake of justice, something is still being repaired.
Tambov is sometimes called the "green city" by old memory. From the greenery there is now a flowerbed in places, in some places the tree grows.
What has increased in Tambov is churches. Various denominations. The case is necessary, of course. Where else would you find so many parishioners? And for the sake of the holy cause (the development of the budget is a sacred cause), it is possible to sacrifice even the Victory Park, even the Victory.
Meanwhile, there is a church on the territory of the region that they managed to save from the Communists. For example, the temple of Archangel Michael with a unique ceramic iconostasis is located in the village of Mordovo.
The civilization finally reached Tambov, and the city underwent mass building with McDonald's. A much more valuable institution than a bus station. Do not go anywhere, eat here. There is nowhere to work Tambovchanam, there is no production in the region, they just eat and pray.
True, there is an authoritative opinion that it will be right to call Tambov residents "Tambovites". Probably hardly anyone knows.
In general - a calm, pleasant, quiet favorite city. There is still peace, electricity and fresh water.
