The Stavropol Territory is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation that is part of the North Caucasian Federal District. The administrative center of the region is the city of Stavropol. Partially located along the northern slope of the Greater Caucasus and partially occupies the central Ciscaucasia. Formed 13 February 1924. In 2016, the population of the region reached a mark of 2 million 800 thousand 551 people.

The history of settlement of these lands began in the 1 millennium BC, however, until the second half of the 18-th century, the territory of modern Stavropol remained a sparsely populated region. It was then that Catherine II permitted the civil colonization of these lands and issued a decree to speed up the settlement process, which provided for the allocation of 20 rubles from the state treasury for each yard. This was due to the need to strengthen the influence on the territories of Mozdok to Azov.

In the ethnic culture of the region, Slavic and Cossack motifs are most pronounced. There are many attractions, many of which are concentrated in Stavropol. Among them, St. Andrew's Cathedral, the Chapel of the Icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow", the source of Seraphim of Sarov, the Museum-Estate of VI. Smirnova, as well as the picture gallery of P.M. Grechishkina.

There are many natural attractions in the Stavropol Territory. Especially it is worth paying attention to the zooexotarium, which has become an amazing museum of the wild nature of the region. In addition to this, there are lakes "Bald Liman", "Burukshunsky Limans", "Lushnikovskoe", and also the lake "Kravtsovo".
One of the largest resort regions of the country - the Caucasian Mineral Waters, too, is located on this land. It is famous for the abundance of mineral springs, as well as their medicinal properties, which have no analogues, perhaps neither in Europe, nor in Asia.

The climatic conditions of the region are extremely favorable for agriculture. And to this day, it remains one of the main industry directions of the economy of the Stavropol Territory.

The unique and original appearance of the territory has appeared due to rational use of features of the local landscape and the work of skillful architects who came here at the invitation of rich merchants. The result of their work was the emergence of churches, parks, guest yards, boulevards and various architectural monuments, which are now famous for the old districts of the cities of the Stavropol Territory.
